Chapter History
Founding of a Chapter
The Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Gamma Iota Gamma Chapter honors the date, Sunday, April 13, 2014, for this is the date Mercer's Campus came to have Sigmas. These four Sigma Men are the first Sigmas on Mercer's Campus. The members of this historical line are:
- Alexander D. Gould
- Cory R. Zeller
- Jewl B. Johnson II
- Vernon T. Scott
The Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Gamma Iota Gamma Chapter owe the following individuals/chapters thanks for their help; without them, Mercer will still be waiting for Sigmas to come to its campus:
- Ehizele Osehobo, of Alpha Alpha Chi Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
- Brent Howard, of Kappa Delta Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
- The members of the Gamma Pi Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
- The members of the Omega Mu Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
Chartering of a Chapter
Within the year after its founding, the, then known as, Gamma Pi Sigma Associate Chapter at Mercer University, or Mercer Sigmas, were able to receive a charter. The chapter received its charter on April 5, 2015. The charter members are as follows:

- Jewl B. Johnson II
- Cory R. Zeller
- Vernon T. Scott
- Titus W. Lawrence, Jr.
- John P. Maddux
(The chapter has a close relationship to the Macon Alumni Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., the Gamma Pi Sigma Chapter.)
